The Breakfast Exchange Club of Gurnee created the Field of Memories (Healing Field) in honor of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. The Healing Field comprises 100 American flags displayed at Esper Peterson Park, each of which represents a service member. The opening ceremony and dedication was held Sunday and included: Guard of the Flags, Paul Habel, Presentation of Colors by the Naval Hospital Great Lakes Color Guard, the National Anthem sung by MU1 Richard Lindeberg, Invocation by David Rutkowski, Pledge of Allegiance by Boy Scout Dylan Morris. The welcome was presented by Dr. Michael Oster and the Dedication of the Healing Field was made by Major Robert S. Weiler of the US Marine Corps. The honorees were recognized by State Senator Michael Bond and State Representative Sandy Cole. The recognition was accompanied by Candace Rutkowski and Amanda Bobel on flute.
